Marking the fifth year anniversary of the competition, the Redress Design Award (formerly the EcoChic Design Award) kicked off its sixth cycle in early 2014 with an exhibition at Hysan Place in Hong Kong, featuring the great sustainable designer Alumni from previous cycles of the competition. The sixth cycle expanded to include entries from all countries in Asia and Europe, with outstanding applications coming from over 40 countries. Our network of supporters grew to include fashion designers, academic institutions, private sector and the media, helping us to reach new talent and amplify our message. We held three press conferences, 12 fashion academies and lecture briefings, multiple workshops and seminars, and 16 international exhibitions showcasing the minimal waste designs of this cycle's uber-talented finalist designers!
In January 2016, we showcased a Grand Final fashion show with the ten finalists' sustainable collections to a 450 strong HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week industry audience, including ambassador Bonnie Chen, select Hong Kong celebrities and an esteemed panel of judges. The prizes included an opportunity to design a sustainable collection for China's leading luxury brand Shanghai Tang; a tailored mentorship with distinguished sustainable designer Orsola de Castro; and to create a show-stopping sustainable outfit for Hong Kong supermodel Janet Ma. In addition, "Hong Kong's Best" and the "EcoChic Design Award 2015/16 Alumni Prize" were awarded to recognise emerging designers.
